March 2021 Youbou Connector

Sharing our History

On January 26, Ken James alerted us all to an important anniversary: 20 years since the Youbou Sawmill closed, changing the course of our town forever. What began as a simple facebook post grew into a new historic Youbou facebook page, where Ken uploaded dozens of images of the sawmill and workers. The page continues to evoke many warm memories and reconnect people who have lost touch since the mill’s heydey. Thanks to Greg Allen for creating the facebook page and to Ken for posting all the great photos. We hope to add some of these images to the history page on our Youbouyca.com web page. In the meantime, you can check out the Youbou Historical Photos facebook page. Thanks Ken!!

YCA Annual Survey

It’s your turn to tell us what you think. The Youbou Community Association is repeating its annual community interest survey to gauge how our members and friends wish us to channel our efforts this year. Please take 5 minutes to fill out the survey by March 22, so we can use it as a planning tool. You may see some of the same questions we’ve asked previously. This is so we can track trends over time and further support our direction year to year. To take the 2021 survey, please click on this link: https://tinyurl.com/2021-Youbou-Community-Survey

YCA Annual Meeting

The Youbou Community Association will hold its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, March 28 at 2 pm online via zoom. At this annual meeting, we elect new board members, share survey results, and discuss plans for the upcoming year. We’ll send an email to our paid YCA members with a zoom link a couple of days before the meeting. If you are a YCA facebook member, but have not yet paid dues and filled out a membership form, you will need to do so in order to receive the email invitation to the meeting.

Are You a Member?

The Youbou Community Association is involved in helping community activities happen, such as holiday decorating, hall dances and other events throughout the year. Please join us. A family lifetime membership is just $10 and is a key to knowing what’s going on around Youbou. We’ll email you our colourful community newsletter every month. Note: While we welcome and love our YCA facebook members, to be considered an official YCA member with voting privileges, you to submit the form and $10 to our membership chair. To join, reach out to cherylmtutor@gmail.com.

Joining Our Board

If you’d like to play a more integral role in keeping our community a fun and friendly place to live, consider joining the Youbou Community Association board. Our current board of 10 members meets once a month to plan activities to benefit the community. Please let us know if you’re interested by emailing julia@raedwulf.org. Voting for the new board will occur at our March 28 general annual meeting.
